You may be able to get financial assistance from the Australian or Victorian Government, depending on your circumstances.

Australian Government

The Australian Government provides a range of supports that may be in the form of regular income support payments from Centrelink, rent assistance or support while you are studying. Assistance is also available to cares of people with a disability. More information is available from the Australian Government assistance page.

Victorian Government

The Victorian Government provides a range of concessions and benefits. State Concessions are designed to improve the affordability of services to low-income households. Areas covered by State Concessions include energy, water and sewerage, municipal rates and transport.

Local Government

Local councils and shires may offer basic supports through aged and disability services, such as:

  • Nursing care
  • Home delivered meals
  • Domestic assistance (e.g. cleaning, gardening, home modification and maintenance)
  • Personal care (e.g. showering)
  • Transport
  • Respite care
  • Counselling
  • Needs assessment

  • If you want to go to a Victorian event or activity such as a concert or football match and you have a significant, permanent disability, you may be able to apply for a Victorian Companion Card. The card can be presented at participating venues and events and the cardholder's accompanying companion will be admitted without charge.
